Summary

In an alchemical ritual gone wrong, Edward Elric lost his arm and his leg, and his brother Alphonse became nothing but a soul in a suit of armor。 Equipped with mechanical "auto-mail" limbs, Edward becomes a state alchemist, seeking the one thing that can restore his brother and himself。。。 the legendary Philosopher's Stone。

There are many types of alchemy in the world。 Edward's commanding officer, "Flame Alchemist" Roy Mustang, can control fire。 Shou Tucker, the "Sewing-Life Alchemist," specializes in the most difficult alchemy of all。。。biological transmutation, the ability to alter the tissue of living things。 But no matter what their power, alchemists are still human。 And when a mysterious killer begins stalking state alchemists, no one can escape his vengeance。。。

I recall in the anime we meet Nina earlier and visit her a few episodes before the。。。 conclusion。So, it's not as impactful for me in the manga, but it's still fucked。We finally meet Scar, an Ishvalan man (as I recall, his people are a parallel of middle eastern people) who's a presumed survivor of the Ishvalan genocide。 (Cuz it's not a "civil war" if one side uses the power of the state military to murder another on the basis of race/religion/ethnicity。) He's a little。。。much this volume, but I recall his character getting some good development so I hold out hope。This arc is executed well。 I love seeing Al beat up his bro for not valuing his OWN life, and we get to see Roy and Riza be badass。 We meet Louis Armstrong, the best boy。 (<3) And we also get a solid lead from poor Marcoh on the boys' goal: the philosopher's stone。We also meet Envy, who is a terrifying character, as well as being a sassy bitch that my younger self quite liked。 Even as an older person, I like the comradere we see between Lust and Gluttony, and Envy。 They're like a little evil family。 (Also the first chapter came back quicker than I thought。 This is kinda what I meant by, FMA can read a little episodic but it all comes back around。) (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

Very well paced volume compared to a bit of the slowness of the first。 There are multiple themes from loss to action that really fit together well。 I really enjoyed the main story arc slowly evolving now and the meeting more characters。 Both Ed and Al are both very relatable in their own ways。 I do love the subtle hooks that keep you turning each page in this volume; especially the first and last chapters of the volume。 A great follow up to the pilot。 Can't wait to get stuck into the next volume Very well paced volume compared to a bit of the slowness of the first。 There are multiple themes from loss to action that really fit together well。 I really enjoyed the main story arc slowly evolving now and the meeting more characters。 Both Ed and Al are both very relatable in their own ways。 I do love the subtle hooks that keep you turning each page in this volume; especially the first and last chapters of the volume。 A great follow up to the pilot。 Can't wait to get stuck into the next volume。 。。。more

Oh this one got a lot darker with this story line。 Gave the story more gravitas。 Also, not knowing where his character is going, I really like Alex Armstrong!

This was such a sad volume :( Poor Nina。 Also, lust and gluttony? References from the Bible? I liked how they took bits from Hindu culture as well because ‘ishvarites’

My only problem with the manga is that everything is happening wayyyyy too quickly!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Nina y Alexander se ganaron y se llevaron mi corazón en tan poco tiempo。 Admito que mis respetos a Scar sólo por haber matado al desgraciado de Tucker y por ahorrarle el sufrimiento a esas dos almas。 El enigma de la piedra filosofal y los tres personajes recurrentes, mantiene alerta。

Chapter 5 was just。。。 something。 I wasn't expecting it to get so dark, but I really like it。 Also, the action has been very easy to follow so far, which I really like。 I'm excited to read something with a continual plot line, too! Chapter 5 (the first chapter in vol。 2) started on a happy note but soon turned gloomy。 It became so sad after the truth about one state alchemist came out and very soon was followed by a final blow - it left a bitter taste in my mouth and a scar in my mind and I noticed the same feeling in Ed Elrich。 In this volume more powers of Lust and Gluttony surfaced。 For Lust, it's the power to restore body parts and keep senescence in check。 Gluttony can smell a person over a long distance。 One of the m Chapter 5 (the first chapter in vol。 2) started on a happy note but soon turned gloomy。 It became so sad after the truth about one state alchemist came out and very soon was followed by a final blow - it left a bitter taste in my mouth and a scar in my mind and I noticed the same feeling in Ed Elrich。 In this volume more powers of Lust and Gluttony surfaced。 For Lust, it's the power to restore body parts and keep senescence in check。 Gluttony can smell a person over a long distance。 One of the most complex characters introduced in this volume is Alex Louis Armstrong。 Like his name he truly has strong arms and excellent fighting techniques - something for which he deserves respect。 His narcissism over his muscular body is funny, while his sensitive mind soon makes him one of the most likable characters in the manga。 But the crimes he committed in the past make it difficult to decide his moral values。 So, as I said, he is a complex character。As always the graphics are hilarious, expressions comical, and dialogues entertaining。 I am totally in love with this manga series - no wonder it achieved such popularity。 Though the anime based on it couldn't faithfully recreate those funny expressions (yeah, you guessed it - I am watching the anime side-by-side with each chapter), it nonetheless has a beauty and gravity of its own。The situation with Scar wasn't solved in vol 2 and it seems it will go on for some time。 Maybe he is intended to represent one of the main villains (or is it? It's not too much to expect from someone whose whole family and village were murdered by another group), let's see!Overall I loved every part of this work by Hiromu (originally Hiromi) Arakawa and looking forward to reading her other books too, once I finish this series of course。Without a doubt, it deserves a whopping 5 Stars from my side! Umm。。。 maybe I should wait a while before deciding on the ratings! 。。。more

This was a pretty good volume! As Al and Edward are searching for the Philosophers stone they meet the guy named Shou Tucker and his daughter but as things transpire and what he does to create chimeras is shocking and at that moment Ed realizes the inhumanity that some men have and its a lesson to him。 In some other place a Alchemist hunter named Scar is hunting them and he has to deal with him with the aid of other state alchemists and we come to know about Ishbalans。 They go to their hometown This was a pretty good volume! I already knew a little about the “chimera incident” before even starting the series but A。 I wasn’t expecting to have to face it so soon and B。 It was somehow EVEN WORSE than I’d expected。 OUCH。
